Breakfast - Because It's Important

Breakfast

This first meal of the day happens to be the most important one of the day. Not only does breakfast provide critical fuel (calories) first thing in the morning, but it is important for two other reasons:

  • Breakfast helps you stay energized all throughout the day.
  • Breakfast helps maintain a healthy weight and may even help with weight loss efforts.

No time for breakfast? No excuse! Lots of easy options exist today and many include tasty pork products like bacon and ham.

Get Up ‘n Go Smart Breakfasts

Red, White and Blue Parfait
Vanilla nonfat yogurt with blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and wheat germ, ground flax seed or low-fat granola.

Grab-n-Go Breakfast Sandwich
Whole wheat English muffin or toasted bread with slice of cheese and several slices of Indiana Kitchen Ham. Add an over-easy egg if you have time!

It’s a Wrap
Whole grain flour tortillas with scrambled egg, chopped onion, spinach leaves and crumbled Indiana Kitchen bacon or diced ham.

Breakfast in a Bowl
Whole grain cereal like raisin bran, frosted wheat squares or toasted o-shapes with 1% milk and chopped fresh, frozen or canned fruit.

Tasty Balance Tip: Go ahead - enjoy a breakfast sandwich or wrap with bacon.  Remember: all foods can fit in a healthy eating plan. What matters is how often and how much, so balance that bacon sandwich with a ham version the next day!

Super Timesaver Tip: Cook bacon on the weekend, then crumble or chop and refrigerate in zippered plastic bag. Now it’s ready for breakfast – or lunch and dinner - all week long!
